The Coroners and Justice Bill received the Royal Assent a few days ago. It has amended nineteen statutes in the syllabus. The amendments will be online in a day or two. In the meanwhile, you will find the amended statutes and the Act in a zip file (CJA2009) in DOWNLOADS.

 

Of particular importance is the amendment to the law on diminished responsibility and provocation in the context of homicide (see sections 54-56 of the Act). For example, the common law defence of provocation has been abolished. Bearing in mind those who are taking the exam in a couple of months, and that sections 54-56 are not yet in force, the lectures et cetera on this topic will not be amended until the beginning of January.
